The Hz started out as a barn find that Dave seen for sale locally for $600 on marketplace and it was too Good of a deal to pass up. With the intention of just parking it up in the shed and getting to it one day, As soon as Dave got it home and it backed of the tilt tray the team started ripping it apart down to a bare shell and before to long he was then on marketplace looking for LS engines to slam in the engine bay and he was lucky enough to find one in the Gold Coast that had just been removed from a VE commodore.
A quick road trip the next weekend to pick up the motor and a sneaky trip to Rare Spares the project was well under way and in full motion. With endless rust repairs and Backyard mechanics the shell was complete keeping the original patina look with a few extra painted repairs and added in GTS flutes on the guards.
Progress was happening quite fast on this car, so then Dave’s wife Georga put forward the idea of using the car in the wedding for a wedding skid. The SWL team thought it may be achievable with many late nights and a lot of labour, so they pushed very hard with the intention of making it. After the body work was done it was then time to Beef up the motor, We took it to Pigg Motorsport to do the tear down and some sneaky mods in conjunction with Warspeed industries, the motor was ready to go in 1 week. We then got a Powerglide built by Al’s power glides ready to go in two weeks. A 9 inch rear shortened rear end by Street Cred Differentials to fit wider wheels on the back with out tubbing the rear end.
We then started assembling the car putting all the drive line in and running all the plumbing for fuel system, and before to long the car was a complete roller and ready to be wired up, We took it to a local mate who is a utopian sparky Luke Ramsden who wired it up fully in two weeks and done a fantastic job
Then we had to get the whole interior re upholstered by AOK upholstery (Trad and Kerry Duffy) in a Brown patina look which suited the whole them of the vehicle.
With two weeks to go till the wedding and 4 weeks to Rockynats, we loaded the car up on a trailer and took it to Turning point technology to be dyno tuned, Brad done a fantastic job of the tune and the old girl pumped out 430 Hp at the hubs!
