THE BEND TCM Round 5 2026

P

2 IN CLASS — WHAT A WEEKEND AT THE BEND!

We’ve got a bit of a story here, so hear me out

We started the weekend with a solid qualifying performance, putting the Commodore P5 outright and only 0.6 seconds off pole.

Then the livery saga continued

‍

‍

With media and everything happening, we had to make a small modification to the bonnet so we could continue running our livery.

A massive thanks to Deano, our category manager, for handling everything so well with Supercars and Motorsport Australia and getting it sorted with basically minimal changes. Really appreciate it mate!

The Trophy Race was a wild one. We were lucky enough to avoid getting caught up in a massive first-corner crash. We managed to dodge it all but dropped back towards the rear of the field. Somehow we fought our way back through to P5.

Race 1 was solid too, finishing P6, but we spent the entire race with air in the brakes and them boiling. I was pumping the pedal down the straights just to make sure I had brakes for the next corner

‍

Still managed to have some great battles and bring it home.

Then Sunday happened…

We rolled out of the pits, lined up for the race and the bloody clutch slave cylinder let go. No choice but to retire the car.

We were then given the opportunity to jump into our teammate Scott Flemming’s HQ so we could still try to grab some championship points, especially as we were sitting inside the top five outright.

Unfortunately, that didn’t go to plan either. After five laps the HQ developed a massive oil leak from the engine, so we had to bring that one in too.

Meanwhile, back in our pits, Will and Mick were absolutely ripping into the Commodore, getting the gearbox out and the clutch apart for inspection. We only had 1.5 hours between races, so it was all hands on deck.

A massive thank you to everyone in the pits who came over, offered parts and lent a hand to help us get back out.

And a special thanks to fellow competitors Warren Trewin and Dave Hender for lending us clutch parts to get the car back together. That’s what this sport is all about.

‍

With 10 minutes to go, the Commodore was back on the ground and ready to race.

We made it to dummy grid, starting right at the rear… and then the heavens opened.

The track was declared wet and the boys made the quick call to throw the wets on.

We rolled out last, and I reckon I did some of the best wet-weather driving I’ve done in a long time. We managed to fight our way through to P6 outright, including a great battle with Warren Trewin right towards the end.

And somehow, after everything that happened…

What an absolute rollercoaster of a weekend.

Massive effort from the whole Bendigo Retro Muscle car crew to keep pushing when it looked like we were done for the weekend.

We’re now absolutely pumped heading into Bathurst, and we’ve got some pretty exciting news coming soon!
